If we were to use one word to describe this year’s Memorial Cup Championship game, it would be… EPIC!
The London Knights, a perennial powerhouse in Canadian Major Junior Hockey, took on the host Saginaw Spirit. It marked the 12th time the two rivals clashed this season; the Knights led the series 8 games to 4 and had Championship aspirations.
But on June 2, 2024, with the Memorial Cup on the line, Saginaw put on an absolute clinic.
The Spirit outshot the Knights 13-1 in the 1st period and built up a 3-0 lead halfway through the game. In a late push, the OHL Champion Knights clawed back to tie the game 3-3, but with 22 seconds left in regulation, Saginaw forward Josh Bloom scored to put the hosts up for good and send the home fans into a frenzy.
The Spirit’s run to the Championship was competition at its finest and a true masterclass in coaching – and we’re going to break it all down at TCS Live, Hockey’s Premier Coaching Conference.
