As a former NHL player and co-founder of R&D Performance, Nick Johnson brings a unique blend of elite competitive experience and academic psychology to athlete coaching and development. His playing career spans from youth hockey in Alberta, to the NCAA, AHL, and NHL where he was selected as a Rookie All-Star for the Minnesota Wild in 2012. He finished his career in the Swedish Hockey League where he earned Gold and Silver medals and finished as the league’s leading goal scorer in 2016.
His passion for the mental side of the game is built on a strong academic foundation: a B.A. in Psychology from Dartmouth College and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology with additional specialized coursework in sports psychology.
Today, alongside fellow NHL alum Dustin Kohn, he leads R&D Performance Ltd, delivering mental performance coaching and athlete development consulting to parents, coaches, and athletes at every stage of their journeys. Whether working with elite performers or coaching youth sports, his goal is to always help individuals develop deep and lasting confidence alongside exceptional performance.
