Joel Becker is Assistant Coach with the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Becker’s journey through elite sport began on the hockey rinks of the Canadian prairies, where he won gold at the U-17 championship and an ACAC college title, securing a place in the MacEwan Griffins record book. His athletic career took a remarkable turn when he was recruited by Own the Podium 2010 to pursue long track speed skating, and within six months, he posted the fastest 100m split time in the world, earning a spot on Speed Skating Canada’s national sprint team. Training alongside Olympic medalists and world champions, Becker developed deep expertise in high-performance strength and conditioning, which now drives his passion for athlete development. Over the past five years, he has coached numerous elite prospects, including three NHL draft picks and two NHL signings in the past season, with a clear mission to help athletes unlock their full potential through innovative, performance-driven training.
